What to Think About when Buying Glitter Wall Paint What to Think About when Buying Glitter Wall Paint

One of the more dynamic changes that you can make to a room is with the application of glitter wall paint. This type of paint has been used for many years without people really knowing that there was glitter in it. For example, popcorn ceilings have a little bit of a sparkle to them that is caused by adding some glitter additive to the paint. There are plenty of ways to have a glitter presentation on your walls through your paint. If you are would like to have a glitterized wall, here are some things to think about when buying glitter wall paint.

Where Glitter Paint Will Go?

The first thing you should think about is where you will be using the glitter wall paint. While you might think that the paint will look great in a certain room, once you place an example piece up on the wall you will see that it is not going to look as good as you thought. Take some time in determining the right room. Some places that a lot of people choose to use glitter wall paint is in children's bedrooms (especially on the ceiling), entertainment rooms, dens, and covered sunrooms where homeowners like to spend starry nights.

How Much do You Need?

One thing about buying glitter wall paint that you will want to take special attention to is how much of the paint you are actually going to need. You can best determine this by measuring the height and width of the surface you are going to paint. This will give you the square footage which can then be used to determine how much paint you will need.

Paint Color

Before you buy the glitter wall paint, think about the color that you are going to want on the wall. Some glitter is not going to show up with lighter colors and will overpower the darker ones. As you are thinking about the actual room that the glitter paint will be going in, you should also think about the different colors that will look good in that room.

Add Glitter

One of the ways to save a little money when buying your glitter wall paint is to add the glitter to the color paint that you want to purchase. The paint that has glitter in it already, while convenient to be able to buy right off the shelf, is going to cost you more than adding the glitter.

Choose Right Glitter

The type of glitter that you are going to use for your paint additive is not the same kind that you will find in the craft aisle. While you can do this yourself, you will want to make sure that you have it done at the paint center of your hardware store. They can mix it up according to the specifications and make sure the glitter is evenly distributed.

Use a Base Coat

Most paints do need to have a base coat of paint to give it some depth. However, glitter wall paint is going to need to have a base coat that is comparable to the color of paint that you are going to use for your final coat.
