Spiral Cut Teeth
The gears that have spiral cut teeth are the ones that are used the most. You will find that they are able to give off more power and are also good at spreading loads. This is because they can put the loads between a bunch of the teeth as opposed to when there is only one tooth. What this basically means is that whenever you need a lot of power and have a large load then you will need to be sure that you use a gear that has spiral cut teeth. Not only will they provide more power they will also do it at a velocity that is constant. You will find that they are the best when it comes to getting a larger job done quickly and efficiently.
Spur gears are used whenever you do not have a very large load. They only have one tooth and are not necessarily able to handle the same large load as the aforementioned gear. These are great when it comes to small loads though. Gears that are made for larger loads are sometimes difficult to manage on smaller loads as they can be too much to handle and be harder to deal with. You will also need to look for better types of lubricant as the constant sliding action of the teeth are going to cause it to wear down much quicker. However, if you do not use this type of gear very often then you will not have to worry as much about the lubricant as somebody that has plans to use it much more often.
