Blue Plaid Kitchen

10 tools

The candy store kitchen painted cabinets finally deteriorated beyond repair so I replaced them with new white cabinets. I added blue plaid wallpaper and a ceramic countertop (wish i'd chosen a different color but oh well - too late!). I tore out the old cabinets myself, and my handyman neighbor helped me install the new ones. Installed new cabinets but did not want to paint them so to add some pizazz, I painted some paintable wallpaper with matching aqua color, and cut it into strips and attached to cabinet fronts. Centered on top of those strips are smaller strips cut from silver metallic contact paper (needless to say, this was a very time consuming project, but well worth it I think). These cuts were made using a utility knife and a straight edge. I attached cover buttons (sewing notions) at the corners using sticky tack (used for hanging posters on the wall). This project might be of interest to apartment dwellers or for re-sale purposes, as it all removable. Pantry door has same design as on cabinets and a white ceramic closet knob. Chair raidl was added paintable beadboard wallpaper below (not painted - left it white) Outdated stainless steel double basin sink has been replaced with a big white single basin sink and pull out faucet. I found ribbon perfectly matched to the aqua color in the wallpaper and trimmed the curtains with it. I wish I had installed a white countertop but blue plaid was not the original plan and after installation of the countertop, ideas and thoughts changed. Overall, I'm well pleased.
