Tools & Materials

  • Hammer
  • Penetrating lubricant
  • Balljoint tool
  • Grease gun
  • Various sockets
  • Axle nut socket


It is very common for the ball joints in a Jeep Wrangler to go bad, especially if it has a lift. To replace the ball joints you are going to want to spray penetrating lubricant on everything and let it sit before removal.

Brake caliper and rotor
Axle nut
Hub/wheel bearing
ABS sensor
Tie rod
Low ball joint nut
Upper ball joint nut
Remove steering knuckle with hammer
Remove Ball joints with ball joint removal tool
Apply grease to new ball joints and install them with ball joint tool
Instead grease fittings if provided
Add grease
Reinstall everything you removed
